The Claims Trading Committee of the American Bankruptcy Institute, on which Christopher Andrew Jarvinen Serves as Co-Chairperson, Publishes Its Latest Newsletter

The Claims Trading Committee of the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI), which was founded by Christopher Andrew Jarvinen, a partner on the Business Reorganization Team of Berger Singerman LLP, has published its latest newsletter.

The ABI is the nation’s largest association of bankruptcy professionals, made up of over 12,000 members in multi-disciplinary roles, including attorneys, auctioneers, bankers, judges, lenders, professors, turnaround specialists, accountants and others.  The ABI is committed to serving its members with high-quality conferences, comprehensive continuing education, effective legal research, and dynamic networking opportunities. 

Founded during 2019, the ABI’s Claims Trading Committee comprises one of the ABI’s 18 core committees, and it is the only active, permanent committee-level group in the United States focused on the issue of claims trading in bankruptcy cases.  The Committee’s mission includes serving as a forum within the ABI for the thoughtful and balanced discussion, analysis and review of decisions, laws, regulations and trends in the area of claims trading, for the benefit of ABI’s members and all of the participants and stakeholders in the bankruptcy system.

In addition to founding the Claims Trading Committee, Mr. Jarvinen currently serves as its initial co-chairperson with U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Elizabeth S. Stong (Bankr. E.D.N.Y.) and has created an international, senior-level leadership team that includes attorneys, claims traders, and other professionals involved in the multi-billion dollar market for secondary market claims trading.

Mr. Jarvinen has been elected to the American College of Bankruptcy, American Law Institute, and the International Insolvency Institute, and he has served as a Fulbright scholar at the Bankruptcy Law & Restructuring Research Center in Beijing, China.  He received his law degree from Boston College Law School, his undergraduate degree in Economics from Brown University, graduate degrees in theological ethics and religion from Harvard Divinity School and Yale University Divinity School, a global Executive Master of Business Administration from FGV-EAESP in São Paulo, Brazil, both a Postgraduate Diploma in Organisational Leadership and a Master of Science degree in Major Programme Management from the Saïd Business School of the University of Oxford, and is currently pursuing a Master of Applied Science in Global Health Planning and Management from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.
