Berger Singerman's Michael Higer to Be Inducted as The Florida Bar's 69th President

MIAMI, FL – June 20, 2017 – Berger Singerman, Florida’s business law firm, is pleased to announce that its Partner, Michael J. Higer, will be sworn in as the 69th president of The Florida Bar when The Bar holds its Annual Convention in Boca Raton. He will be sworn in during the General Assembly on Friday, June 23rd.
Higer’s leadership will be closely aligned with The Bar’s strategic plan, focusing on five key goals:
- Using technology to better connect The Bar’s resources with the public and members who need it.
- Encouraging a more inclusive profession and justice system.
- Educating members and the public on the work of the Constitution Revision Commission.
- Delivering the benefits and services that help The Bar’s members grow.
- Prioritizing health and wellness.
With more than 104,000 members, The Florida Bar is one of the largest unified bars in the nation. It is charged by the Florida Supreme Court with regulating the practice of law in the state as well as promoting the administration of justice. Higer has been a long-standing leader of The Florida Bar, previously serving on its Executive and Strategic Planning Committees for the Board of Governors, and as the former Chair of the Business Law Section and the Special Committee on Gender Bias. He is widely regarded as one of the architects of Florida’s business courts.

Higer is a partner on Berger Singerman's Dispute Resolution Team and devotes his practice to commercial, business and insurance litigation, as well as civil trial work. He has more than 30 years of experience representing several of the largest local and national lending institutions, prominent real estate developers, insureds in first party insurance disputes, as well as debtors and creditors in multi-million dollar litigation matters. He has also represented clients in intellectual property litigation involving patents, trademarks, copyright, computer software, covenants not to compete, unfair competition and related matters. Higer has handled matters in both in the state and federal trial courts, the state and federal appellate courts, the Supreme Court of Florida and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Highly regarded for his outstanding achievements as a commercial litigator, Higer is Chambers USA ranked and A/V rated by Martindale Hubbell®, and has been repeatedly recognized by Best Lawyers®, Florida Trend magazine’s Florida Legal Elite™, and Florida Super Lawyers. He has been featured by the South Florida Business Journal in its Book of Law.
He earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law, where he served as the Executive Editor of the Law Review, and his B.A from the University of Florida.
