Berger Singerman's Katie S. Phang Named President-Elect of The Florida Association for Women Lawyers' Miami-Dade Chapter

MIAMI, FL – June 14, 2016 – Berger Singerman, Florida’s business law firm, is pleased to announce that Katie S. Phang has been named President-Elect of the Miami-Dade Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers (MDFAWL). Phang previously served as the organization’s Treasurer and Secretary, and her one-year term will be completed in June 2017 at which time she will become the President of the organization.
MDFAWL is a voluntary bar association dedicated to the professional advancement of women lawyers, and the promotion of women’s rights. Through its members, the organization helps advance the science of jurisprudence, promote reform in law, facilitate the administration of justice, uphold the highest standards of integrity, learning, honor and courtesy in the legal profession, and promote women’s rights and the common interests of women lawyers.
A partner at Berger Singerman and a member of the firm’s Dispute Resolution Team, Phang represents a diverse group of clients in commercial litigation, marital law, and criminal defense matters. She has more than 16 years of trial experience in state and federal courts. Prior to joining Berger Singerman, Phang held positions at the Miami-Dade County and Broward County State Attorney's offices, where she rose to the level of homicide prosecutor and Division Chief. As a former prosecutor and private practitioner, she tried dozens of jury and bench trials throughout Florida, several of which as Lead Trial Counsel. A regular legal analyst on Fox News and other media outlets, Phang has been recognized as a “Top Lawyer in Corporate and Business Law” by South Florida Legal Guide, one of Florida Trend’s “Legal Elite,” and as a “Rising Star” by the Daily Business Review.
Actively involved in the South Florida community, Phang serves as the Vice-Chairperson of the City of Miami Beach Design Review Board, and on the Executive Committees of Dress for Success Miami and Friends of the New World Symphony. She earned her B.A. in Political Science from Yale University, and her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law.
