Berger Singerman Bolsters Healthcare Practice with Addition of Prominent Attorney Michael Levinson, M.D., J.D.

Board Certified Health Lawyer, licensed physician and former healthcare executive will lead healthcare practice while deepening firm’s expertise
MIAMI, FL – Sept. 11, 2018 – Berger Singerman, Florida’s business law firm, is pleased to announce that Michael Levinson, M.D., J.D., has joined the firm as a partner on the Business, Finance & Tax Team and will lead the firm’s healthcare practice. Levinson will be based in Berger Singerman’s Miami office.
Levinson is a nationally recognized, board certified healthcare attorney whose legal counsel is sought routinely by a broad range of life sciences businesses, including leading healthcare providers, health systems, investment funds, device manufacturers and suppliers, clinical laboratories, and home health agencies. Highly respected for his transactional, operational and regulatory experience, Levinson’s healthcare work includes matters such as joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, third-party reimbursement, licensing and permitting, operational compliance, false claims, and corporate governance.

Levinson’s experience extends beyond healthcare to a wide array of commercial industries as well. His client base includes private equity funds, strategic buyers, hospitals, single and multi-specialty group practices and other health care professionals on their transactional and operational matters. In additional to his extensive legal background, Levinson draws from his time as a former healthcare executive and a licensed physician to bring the truly multidisciplinary approach needed to best understand and adapt to the ever-changing U.S. healthcare industry.

Most recently, Levinson was a partner with K&L Gates, LLP, where he represented clients in all sectors of the life sciences industry, with a strong focus on compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements. Prior to that, he was at Hogan Lovells US, LLP where he had a broad based regulatory and transactional practice, focusing on the healthcare industry.
Levinson’s work as a healthcare attorney has received industry-wide recognition, and he has been consistently ranked by Chambers USA, Florida Super Lawyers, Martindale-Hubbell (AV Preeminent), Who's Who in American Law, Legal 500, and Nightingale's Healthcare News.
He received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was the Managing Editor of the Virginial Environmental Law Journal, and his M.D. from the University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School. Levinson earned his B.A. in History & Sociology of Science, from University of Pennsylvania. He is admitted to practice law in Florida, Colorado and the District of Colombia, and he is board certified by The Florida Bar in healthcare law.
