Berger Singerman Announces 2023 Elevations

Berger Singerman, Florida’s business law firm, is pleased to announce that Marlene M. Duarte and Michael J. Niles have been elevated to Partner effective January 1st. In addition to these promotions, the firm welcomed nine attorneys over the past ten months bolstering its four practice teams.

Marlene Duarte is an attorney on Berger Singerman’s Business, Finance and Tax Team and is resident in the firm’s Miami office. Duarte focuses her practice on corporate and securities matters as well as in healthcare. She represents clients in domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions, recapitalizations, joint ventures, corporate carve-outs, and the related financings required to fund such transactions, primarily representing private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies. Duarte also advises clients with respect to corporate governance, general corporate matters, and regulatory healthcare matters.
As a member of Berger Singerman’s Chambers-ranked Business Reorganization Team, Michael Niles specializes in commercial bankruptcy and creditors’ rights matters, bankruptcy litigation, and commercial real estate transactions. He is resident in the Firm’s Tallahassee office, although his practice is statewide. He has represented stakeholders in bankruptcy proceedings filed under Chapter 7 and 11 and assisted clients in the purchase and sale of property from bankruptcy estates. Michael’s experience also includes representing both local and national developers, property owners, lenders and borrowers in the acquisition, disposition, financing, leasing and development of real property. He is currently a member of the Tallahassee Bar Association and the William H. Stafford Inn of Court as well as past president and current board member of the Northern District of Florida Bankruptcy Bar Association. Prior to entering private practice, Michael served as a judicial law clerk to United States Bankruptcy Judge Karen Specie of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Florida.
