Christopher Andrew Jarvinen to Be Inducted into the American College of Bankruptcy

MIAMI – November 9, 2016 – Christopher Andrew Jarvinen, a partner on the Business Reorganization Team of Berger Singerman LLP and a resident of its Miami office, has been named a new Fellow in the 28th Class of the American College of Bankruptcy. Jarvinen is one of 30 new Fellows being honored and recognized for their professional excellence and exceptional contributions to the fields of restructuring and insolvency.
The American College of Bankruptcy is an honorary association of approximately 800 bankruptcy and insolvency professionals, and plays an important role in sustaining professional excellence in the field. The Fellows of the College include commercial and consumer bankruptcy attorneys, judges, insolvency accountants, turnaround and workout specialists, law professors, government officials and others involved in the bankruptcy and insolvency community.
Fellows are selected on an invitation only basis. Nominees are extended an invitation to join based on a sustained record of achievement reflecting the highest standards of professionalism. Candidates are selected by the College’s Board of Regents from among recommendations of Circuit Admissions Councils in each of the 11 federal judicial circuits and specially appointed Committees for Judicial and Foreign Fellows. Jarvinen, who was admitted to practice law in 2000, is just one of two Fellows chosen this year from the Eleventh Circuit which covers the states of Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Based upon the length of time practicing law, he is also one of the youngest members to be accepted as a Fellow of the College. The College’s induction ceremony and reception for the new Fellows in the 28th Class will take place on March 10, 2017 at the Smithsonian Donald W. Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture Museum in Washington, DC.
Jarvinen’s practice includes both in and out-of-court restructurings of financially distressed businesses on behalf of debtors, creditor committees, major secured and unsecured creditors, trustees, and third parties seeking to acquire the assets or businesses of financially troubled companies. His extensive experience has equipped him to provide clients with value-added solutions to intricate and multi-faceted business, transactional and litigation issues. He is ranked by Chambers & Partners (U.S.) as one of the outstanding restructuring attorneys in the United States.
Among his various associations, Jarvinen is a member of the American Law Institute and the International Insolvency Institute. He also teaches graduate-level, business courses at the Fundação Getulio Vargas, Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo (FGV-EAESP), the highest-ranked business school located in Latin America. His courses are designed to equip senior executives with proven methods of international legal management in order to unlock value for their global business enterprises facing financial distress. Jarvinen is also the immediate past chairperson of the Caribbean Insolvency Symposium, one of the annual “flagship” conferences of the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI), and he also serves on the board of editors of International Corporate Rescue, which is a bi-monthly journal based in the United Kingdom which provides practitioner value on a range of corporate rescue and insolvency issues to a worldwide readership of thousands of restructuring professionals. He is one of the founding members of TMA-Brasil (the largest not-for-profit group of restructuring professionals in Brazil), and has served as its ambassador to the TMA in the U.S.
Jarvinen received an undergraduate degree in Economics from Brown University and his law degree from Boston College Law School. He has also obtained graduate degrees from Harvard University, Yale University, FGV-EAESP, and the University of Oxford. In addition, he has attended Columbia University and the University of Cambridge.
