Berger Singerman Partner Christopher Andrew Jarvinen Named Senior U.S. Fulbright Specialist in Law
March 17, 2019
Christopher Andrew Jarvinen, a partner on the Business Reorganization Team of Berger Singerman LLP, has been named a senior Fulbright Specialist by the U.S. Department of State. Mr. Jarvinen has accepted an invitation from the Bankruptcy Law and Restructuring Research Center (“Center”) of the China University of Political Science and Law (“CUPL”) to be in residence between March-May, 2019.
CUPL is a “Project 211” university―a government honor bestowed upon China’s finest institutions of higher education. Over the past 60 years, CUPL has played an active role in key legislative efforts in China. CUPL has also assumed a leadership role in the development and innovation of legal thought in China. The Center is the very first professional research institution on bankruptcy law and corporate restructuring in mainland China. Among other consultative roles, the Center participated in the drafting of China’s new Enterprise Bankruptcy Law (“EBL”).
Mr. Jarvinen will work with the Center, the CUPL and Chinese judges, government officials, academics, and practitioners to co-develop projects focused on the EBL. “I am truly honored to be selected for this amazing opportunity to collaborate with the Center to co-create practical, value-added projects related to China’s EBL and corporate restructuring”.
Mr. Jarvinen has been elected to the American College of Bankruptcy, American Law Institute, and the International Insolvency Institute. He received his law degree from Boston College Law School, his undergraduate degree in Economics from Brown University, graduate degrees in theological ethics and religion from Harvard Divinity School and Yale Divinity School, an E.M.B.A from FGV-EAESP in São Paulo, Brazil and a Postgraduate Diploma in Organisational Leadership and a Master of Science degree in Major Programme Management from the Saïd Business School of the University of Oxford. He has also attended Columbia University and the University of Cambridge.
Like its well-known counterpart for students, the Fulbright Specialist program is one of the most widely-recognized and prestigious exchange programs in which the U.S. Department of State pairs highly-qualified, senior U.S. professionals and scholars with host institutions so that they may share their expertise.
“We are absolutely delighted that Christopher has been chosen as a senior Fulbright Specialist to work closely with Chinese academics, officials, judges, and practitioners on significant matters involving bankruptcy law and corporate restructuring,” said Paul Steven Singerman, the Co-Chair of Berger Singerman LLP.
