Berger Singerman, Florida’s business law firm, is pleased to announce that David Camhi and Daniel W. Hudson have joined the firm as partners on the Business, Finance & Tax Team. They bring decades of experience to the firm’s thriving International & Cross Border Transactions practice, which assists clients with both inbound and outbound activities and transactions and provides counsel for foreign clients in planning and implementing their commercial activities in the United States.
“At Berger Singerman, we strive to anticipate our clients’ needs and to exceed our clients’ expectations. As we welcome in the new year, we remain committed to acquiring the top legal talent available-- like David and Daniel-- to further strengthen our award-winning teams,” said Paul Steven Singerman, co-chair of Berger Singerman. “David and Daniel’s impressive legal acumen, leadership abilities and extensive knowledge of the intricacies of international transactions make each of them a great addition to our firm.”
Camhi joins Berger Singerman with over 20 years of experience at leading law firms in Colombia, Mexico and New York, and as in-house counsel at major corporations in the U.S. He is fluent in Spanish and English. His roles in-house enabled him to develop a strong skill set in corporate strategy development, domestic and cross-border operations, strategic transactions, efficient corporate restructurings, and management of complex international corporate structures. Camhi held legal executive roles at Phoenix Group—where he served as General Counsel of a privately-held conglomerate of companies manufacturing plastic packaging and resins at plants in the U.S., Colombia, Venezuela and Mexico; Playa Hotels and Resorts —where he directly managed all legal and compliance matters of a Dutch, multi-billion publicly traded hospitality company owning and operating all-inclusive hotels in Mexico and the Caribbean, including the Company’s IPO and significant acquisitions and strategic transactions. Most recently, Camhi held the position of Chief Legal Officer at Payless ShoeSource, where he successfully help steer the Company out of Chapter 11 protection, redefined the legal structure of its domestic and international operations, and negotiated significant transactions to rebuild the Company’s product offering and operations.
Camhi earned his LL.M. at Cornell University Law School, M.S. in Corporate Finance from Colegio de Estudios Superiores de Administracion (CESA) in Bogotá, Colombia, and his LL.B. from Universidad de Los Andes, also in Bogotá. He will be a resident in Berger Singerman’s Miami and Fort Lauderdale offices.
Hudson brings over 13 years of international tax experience to the firm’s Business, Finance & Tax Team and International Tax Group. His practice focuses on advising U.S. and foreign individuals and businesses regarding design and implementation of cross-border business structures, acquisitions and joint ventures, immigrating or temporarily moving to the U.S., expatriation tax planning and trust and estate law, and U.S. federal tax and treaty-related issues for investing or doing business in the U.S, especially with regard to inbound investments in U.S. real estate and other issues involving the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act (FIRPTA).
Prior to joining Berger Singerman, Hudson was as an attorney at Am Law 100 and top global law firm, Baker McKenzie, where he frequently advised high net worth U.S. and foreign individuals and multinational corporations, family offices and trust companies on international tax, trust and succession planning issues. He earned his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law, his J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law, and his B.S. in Economics from Villanova University. He will be a resident in Berger Singerman’s Miami office.
“Given Florida’s appeal for international and cross-border business, we’ve seen tremendous growth in this practice area, and with the strategic addition of Daniel and David, we look forward to expanding our international transaction team’s capabilities so we can best assist our clients,” said Jordi Guso, managing partner of Berger Singerman.
Daniel W. Hudson and David Camhi are the latest high-profile additions to join Berger Singerman and its growing International & Cross Border Transactions practice. The group’s unique understanding of country-specific cultural differences and business practices, and the team’s foreign language capabilities have enabled them to provide unmatched strategic and effective service to international and domestic clients.
